What do you have for breakfast? Video for Listening Comprehension



What do you have for breakfast? A savoury breakfast with bacon, eggs and toast? A sweet breakfast with croissants, fruit and coffee?

An energizing breakfast with cereal and fruit rich in vitamins? A dietary breakfast with just an apple . . . And a glass of milk? 

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It gives you lots of energy. You can do anything after a good breakfast! 

But by the end of the morning your stomach starts to rumble. It's not long till lunchtime. 

'Hmm . . . what should I have? A mixed salad? A hot dog? Hamburger and chips? A typically French onion soup? Why not? I haven't got any meetings this afternoon'. 

Perhaps you'd prefer to eat seafood . . . Prawns . . . Lobster or crab? Or even enjoy some fresh fish . . . 

In Italy they like pasta. And they do eat a lot of it! But since it comes in all shapes and colours, you never get tired of it. 

How about having an exotic speciality? Tandoori chicken? Or some chilli con carne? Watch out for the spices . . . They make for an explosive mixture! 

Ever thought of trying Japanese cooking? Like sushi, which is made from raw fish . . . and plain, boiled rice. Makes you want to try some! 

What about French food, ever tried it? France is the home of gastronomy. Refined dishes, varied sauces, vintage wines . . . Crusty and soft bread . . . Without forgetting the cheeses! 

Whatever your tastes, one thing is certain: nobody likes being deprived of dessert! 

Whether it be a raspberry tart, mmm . . . A delicious chocolate cake, mmm . . . A key lime pie, mmm . . . Or vanilla ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream. Mmm! Mmm! 

But like all good things . . . Don't overdo it!

Presentasi Tell me More Singkat (3-5 menit)

1.  Tell me More adalah CD-ROM (1) untuk belajar bahasa INGGRIS (2)secara mandiri dan INTERAKTIF(3)

2. KEGIATAN(4)nya ada DIALOG(5).  Dalam dialog ada PESAN KOMPUTER(5) dan PILIHAN JAWABAN(6). Cara mengerjakannya, setelah kita menengarkan pesan computer kemudian kita memilih salah satu jawaban dengan cara MENGUCAPKAN(7) jabawan tersebut. Kalau pengucapan kita benar akan ada SOROT HIJAU(9) dan dialog akan berjalan.

3. Kalau kita mengalami KESULITAN PENGUCAPAN(10)(tidak pernah ada sorot hijau),  ada LATIHAN PENGUCAPAN(11). Dalam latihan pengucapan, ada kalimat, ada suara dan grafik dari MODEL(12) untuk ditirukan, dan ketika kita sudah menirukan akan ada tampilan GRAFIK HASIL PENGUCAPAN KITA(13). Di bawahnya ada KOTAK SKOR(14). Semakin banyak kotaknya, semakin baik pengucapan kita.

4. Latihan pengucapan ada 3 macam: PENGUCAPAN KALIMAT(15), PENGUCAPAN KATA(16) dan PENGUCAPAN BUNYI(17).

5. Dalam pengucapan bunyi, ada ANIMASI 3 DIMENSI(18) gerak mulut (bibir, gigi, lidah). Dengan animasi ini kita jadi tahu bagaimana menggerakkan mulut kita untuk menghasilkan bunyi-bunyi tertentu yang tidak ada dalam bahasa kita.


 
6. Kemudian ada VIDEO(19) untuk latihan LISTENING(20). Di akhir video ada PERTANYAAN PEMAHAMAN(21) untuk menguji pemahaman kita atas video yang baru saja kita toton.




7. Kemudian juga ada LATIHAN MENULIS(22) di mana kita diminta untuk MENDESKRIPSIKAN(23) gambar atau video, atau meringkas teks yang ada. Setelah selesai Anda bisa melihat SKOR(24) menulis Anda.

Hey, what are you doing? Oh... you're reading. These people are dancing. And they're working in a field, cutting flowers. My neighbour is listening to classical music. And me? I'm learning a foreign language.

My brother is writing a love letter. No, no, I'm not joking! I'm serious. His wife is laughing at him, she thinks he's mad. Why are you shouting? Oh, I see, the phone's ringing. The call's for your father. He's herding the cattle! Shout louder, or he'll never hear you!

This little girl is eating watermelon. And the young woman is drinking water, which is just as refreshing! I'm washing my hands. Ow! The water's boiling hot!

The child has hurt himself. He's crying. Sh! The baby is sleeping. And granddad is having a nap in the garden. So, stop playing the drum! The boy is mowing the lawn... And the father is painting the house.

The lovers are walking hand in hand. Oops, you didn't see anything! Look at these sportsmen instead. They're running a marathon. They're running the hundred metres. They're sprinting. They're skipping. One, two, three, four.

This man's sitting. He's reading his paper. He's going to work. Now he's typing a report. He's throwing the ball. And he's catching one.

I'm surfing. I love waves. They're roller-skating. What a lovely view! My mother likes to go horse-riding, which is different to horse-racing! You can do so many interesting things in a lifetime! It's never boring.

Sometimes, I dream about walking on the moon, or about living on an island. Not Manhattan island! A tropical island! I dream about having a big family. But when you're ten years old, life's a swing!

Animal World - Video for Listening Comprehension



It's surprising what you can find at the end of your garden. Wild flowers... and even smaller yet, insects!

Look! This caterpillar can't even see his friend who's hiding on the same leaf. His vision is very bad, no doubt, but finding glasses his size is very difficult!

And did you see the praying mantis? Her camouflage is very effective. Nature has given her the best of defences: invisibility.

How annoying to be woken by an impolite caterpillar! You'll have to find another leaf to finish your nap.

At the very beginning of his life, the caterpillar is yellow and black. He builds a cocoon, metamorphoses and becomes a handsome butterfly. He now has black and orange wings.

Overnight he has become the symbol of fine weather and everyone loves him. Which isn't the case for the other creepy-crawlies!

Don't worry, this little black and white kitten in the basket isn't the dish of the day. Listen to her purr.

She's looking at her 'doggy' friends and would like to play with them. What vitality! The brown dog must bring the stick back to his owner, but the black dog says it's his. "Give it to me! It's mine !"

It's well known that only dogs would play and fight for a piece of wood. But certain of our sports may seem just as bizarre to animals.

Let's change location! Let's go on safari! There, where the animals are still wild!

In the savannah you can find the zebra. From the same family as the horse, he's got black and white stripes. You'd think he's wearing pyjamas. Even at midday!

Look! There are giraffes as well! They've got spots, however. With their long neck, they're sometimes more than five metres tall.

They don't need a ladder to eat the best leaves on the tree. But with a neck like theirs, you don't want to get a sore throat in winter!

Far from the savannah this horse is running in his field. Like a car, a horse has four speeds. He walks, trots, gallops and bolts.

It's best not to be on his back when he does that. If not, you'll find yourself in a rodeo. To help you get off, the horse bucks.

The dolphin is admired by all children. He's very talkative but not very understandable!

A Busy Day - Video for Listening Comprehension



Wakey-wakey! Rise and shine!

You're always in a hurry in the morning. Daddy takes the children to school before going to work by public transport. Let's hope nobody has forgotten anything!

There's the train at last. At first sight, it looks like a quiet station. Suddenly, hundreds and hundreds of people step onto the platform to go to their office. Daddy's somewhere in this huge crowd. What a hive of activity! 

Some people prefer to take their cars. It may be more comfortable, but you have to constantly brake to stop at traffic lights. You come across all sorts of vehicles on the roads: vehicles with two wheels, four wheels, big and small. 

The days follow on and resemble each other. Come rain or shine, the routine settles in: children at school, parents at work. In spring, nature wakes up and blossoms once more. The snow melts and it is warmer. The landscapes and the countryside regain their colours. 

After the fruit harvest and grape picking, autumn is already well under way. The leaves change colour and begin to fall. In gardens, the sweeping up of dead leaves creates a lot of work. Especially if there are children nearby! 

Either way, a garden requires constant upkeep. You always have to mow the lawn, water the flowers, dig the earth and prune the rosebushes...

In winter, the snowfalls and drops in temperature mean we have to dress warmer. If not, we risk catching a cold or the flu. Sometimes the snow blocks the traffic: another day's holiday! 

The months and seasons go by, but sometimes we have the feeling that time has stopped. Especially around five o'clock in the evening!

We only think about going home. We count the minutes: 5.15, 5.30, 5.45, six o'clock precisely. There you are, you can go home! The day is over. 

In the evening, we are tired: we yawn and stretch. Some people, however, can't manage to fall asleep and they have to count sheep. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 50, 100, 1,000! 

And what do we dream about? Summer, of course! Of moments of happiness shared with family or friends, far from the daily routine! But we quickly take on new habits: swimming, reading, eating ice cream, sunbathing, swimming, reading, eating ice cream, sunbathing...

Hey! Wake up, lazy! It is five o’clock. It is very early in the morning. What a lovely day! The sun is shining. The birds are singing.

Brush your teeth. Comb your hair. Mmm! What a delicious breakfast! You’ve got apples, pears and grapes... Cereal, and bacon, eggs, toast and coffee. Don’t eat too much!

You leave the house and go to work. Do you take the train? Ooh, you have a beautiful car! It’s a red car. There are lots of cars. As usual! Hello. How are you? I’m fine, thank you.

So where do you work? In the city. But where in the city? At the zoo! Lucky you! Oh no, this lion looks very dangerous. He is very big. But I prefer smaller cats. They don’t eat people!

So, what are you doing tonight? Do you want to go to a club? Or a pub? Or do you want to go home? Read a good book... Watch television... Or even talk a foreign language!

What do you do at the weekend? Oh, you like karate? Ouch! That doesn’t look like fun! Me? I prefer fishing. It’s relaxing, like being on holiday.

Do you travel often? Have you been to Thailand? I love Venice. Don’t look so surprised. I’m very romantic. I often buy roses.

You look tired. What time is it? It’s five past one. It’s time to go to bed. Sweet dreams!

Visiting London - Video for Listening Comprehension










You've certainly guessed where we are, haven't you? The flags, the red buses, the black taxis... Yes, we're in the heart of London, on Regent Street, where people come to do their shopping.

Come on! Let's catch a double-decker bus, London's most famous symbol. It's always the same! You wait for a long time and three come along at once. All aboard!

You may get to see more of the town from the bus: its monuments, parks, but also its traffic jams. However, taking the tube is still the quickest way to get around London.

Construction dates back to the end of the last century. Today the London Underground network goes to the north, south, east and west of the capital.

From Charing Cross you can take the Northern line. Londoners hate this tube because it is always slow, late or breaking down.

Mind the doors! Hold on tight as the old train rattles its way under the river Thames!

In the old days horses pulled the carriages. These days the only horses you'll see in the city centre are those of the mounted police.

Don't you think that's an odd thing to see among the modern architecture and neon signs of the twentieth century?

Even if the tube is the most practical and cheapest way about town, the helicopter is the most impressive.

The view is amazing! See that large building in the distance? Well, it's Canary Wharf, the old dockers' quarter in the middle of the East End.

That is where the Cockney accent was born. It's thanks to the Thames that London became the capital of the United Kingdom.

Everybody knows what Tower Bridge looks like, but not many people know that an ancient law still allows you to cross the bridge with pigs.

You can also see the Palace of Westminster, which is divided into two Houses.

The Members of Parliament work in the House of Commons and the older MPs go to the House of Lords to discuss the legislation proposals.

Elizabeth II is the Queen of the United Kingdom. Every year in celebration of the Queen's birthday there is the Horse Guards' parade.

In the summer the Queen also has parties, in her garden at Buckingham Palace, to which she invites certain citizens. You can eat cucumber sandwiches and drink tea there.

If you're invited one day, mind your English! The language the Queen speaks resembles more Shakespeare's than the English you can hear every day in the streets.

The royal family is so famous that the Queen doesn't need a camera. She only has to buy the newspapers that publish hundreds of photos of her family every day. Then she goes to Westminster Abbey and explains to her ancestors that the journalists exaggerate a little.
